Instagram Follower Ratio Calculator
Followers divided by following, for any Instagram account. And what the number says.
How the ratio is calculated
Follower ratio = followers ÷ accounts followed
An account with 50,000 followers that follows 500 people has a ratio of 100. The higher the ratio, the more the audience came for the content rather than a follow back.
What the ratio says
- Under 1. Follows more people than follow it. Normal for personal accounts, a warning sign for a creator.
- 1 to 10. A personal or early-stage account.
- 10 to 100. An established creator audience.
- Over 100. A big audience that follows few accounts back. Typical of well-known creators and brands.
Limits of the ratio
The ratio is easy to game: an account can follow thousands, collect follow-backs, then unfollow. Use it next to views per Reel and engagement rate. If the ratio looks great but Reels get a tiny share of followers in views, the audience may not be real.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good follower to following ratio on Instagram?
Over 10 is typical for an established creator. Over 100 is common for well-known creators and brands. Under 1 is normal only for personal accounts.
How do I calculate the ratio?
Divide followers by the number of accounts followed. 20,000 followers and 400 following is a ratio of 50.
Does the ratio matter for brand deals?
A little. Brands look harder at views per Reel and engagement, but a low ratio on a big account can hint at follow-for-follow growth.
